Sohan M Rai, a tech innovator and founder of a startup in Mangaluru, has developed an AI-powered gadget that places food orders the moment it detects his stomach growling. Sharing a video of the invention, Rai said, “I invented this device which understands when I’m hungry and automatically orders food on Zomato.” The device, named MOM (Meal Ordering Module), can be clipped onto a belt and is designed to respond immediately to hunger signals.
How it works
The gadget uses a combination of hardware components, including a stethoscope borrowed from Rai’s sister, and Claude AI to determine whether he is hungry. Once the device detects the familiar growling sound, it automatically places an order through Zomato. Rai explained that the invention is a personal solution that automates the act of ordering food whenever he feels hungry.
Social media reactions
The video quickly went viral online, sparking both amusement and curiosity. One user asked, “How did you test this?” to which Rai replied, “Had to sit a whole day without eating.” Another commented, “Growl does not mean hungry. Nice work though.” Rai responded, “I get it when I’m hungry. So works for me.” Some viewers questioned the necessity of the gadget, with one asking, “What was the need for this?”
Background of Sohan M Rai
Rai runs a tech-focused Instagram page called “zikiguy,” where he regularly shares innovative gadgets and experiments. His LinkedIn profile mentions that he studied at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and completed several internships at tech companies before starting his own venture.
He first gained attention in 2023 for experimenting with autonomous delivery drones. Rai briefly signed up as a Zomato delivery partner and used a drone he engineered himself to deliver orders. “I wanted to put my skills into use and build an autonomous drone which could deliver a pizza directly to a home, without having a pilot. Here, I have built the drone with a lot of Jugaad, and it would be a lot better when it is commercial. This is an experiment and was conducted with safety and precautions,” he had said at the time.
Rai’s latest invention continues his streak of combining practical technology with playful innovation. While some may question its necessity, the MOM device highlights his commitment to automating everyday tasks using AI and creative hardware solutions.
