The Maharashtra government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Lodha Developers Ltd to set up a Green Integrated Data Centre Park in Palava, marking a significant step in boosting the state’s digital infrastructure.
The project involves an investment of ₹30,000 crore and will cover 370 acres in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It is designed with a planned capacity of 2 gigawatts and will run entirely on renewable energy. The park will be developed to host several leading domestic and international players in the data centre industry.
The initiative is expected to generate around 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. Lodha Developers will serve as the master developer, while individual data centre operators will establish their facilities within the park.
This development comes after Maharashtra launched its Green Integrated Data Centre Parks policy in October 2024. The policy was introduced to ensure that data centres, which consume large amounts of energy, rely on renewable and alternative energy sources. Under this programme, three green data centre parks will be built across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to meet the rising demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other digital services.
Back in 2019, Maharashtra had already identified data centres as a “thrust area” for industrial growth. The new collaboration with Lodha Developers strengthens that vision while also aligning with India’s sustainability goals.
Abhishek Lodha, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lodha Developers Ltd, said the partnership highlights the company’s commitment to green growth. “The Green Integrated Data Centre Parks policy will not only create employment opportunities and boost the economy but will also operate on clean and green energy sources benefiting generations. At Lodha, we are aiming for net zero across our operations in the coming years and are committed to the success of this initiative,” he said.
With this MoU, Maharashtra aims to position itself as a global hub for data centre investments by combining industrial expansion with sustainable practices, ensuring the state plays a leading role in the digital economy.
