LinkedIn India Country Manager Urges Professionals to Focus on Skills Over Job Titles in the AI Era

LinkedIn India country manager Kumaresh Pattabiraman has stressed that working professionals should view their roles not merely by job titles, but as a set of highly adaptable and evolving skills that can be leveraged in the age of artificial intelligence.

Pattabiraman noted that AI is rapidly reshaping the nature of jobs, making flexibility and continuous learning more important than ever. “As a professional today, it would be smart not to think of your job as the exact title that you have, but instead as a set of highly-adaptable, evolving skills that will help you achieve something in the workforce,” he said. He emphasized that dynamic skills are becoming the new currency of work.

LinkedIn supports professionals through features like ‘Job Match,’ which guides users toward roles where they are more likely to succeed. AI-powered coaching tools help with interviews, negotiations, and appraisals, easing job search challenges for young professionals entering the workforce.

India is LinkedIn’s second-largest and fastest-growing market, with its user base surpassing 16 crore. Pattabiraman believes India could become the platform’s largest market within two to three years if the current growth trend continues. He described India as a “signpost” for the global future of work, adding, “By solving for India, we also solve for our 1.2 billion members globally.”

Highlighting current workforce challenges, Pattabiraman said, “Job seekers are applying to more roles than ever and hearing back less. It can be really frustrating. LinkedIn Job Match helps channel their energy towards jobs where they are a great fit, increasing their chances of success.”

He also highlighted LinkedIn’s AI coaching features, which allow members to prepare for critical moments such as interviews, appraisals, and negotiations.

Pattabiraman encouraged young professionals to think broadly and take initiative in shaping their careers. Growing up in a traditional household, he recalled how parents encouraged predefined career paths. Today’s workforce, he said, has the opportunity to carve their own paths. “It is a moment for them to think more broadly,” he added.

His comments come at a time when the global economy and labor markets face unprecedented uncertainties, from economic volatility to geopolitical tensions. In this changing landscape, adaptability, resilience, continuous learning, and embracing technology are increasingly seen as the keys to professional success.
