LinkedIn has started offering an AI powered search feature for its Premium subscribers. This new feature allows users to search for professionals using simple, plain language requests. For example, users can type “someone who’s grown a small business” or “an expert in digital marketing” instead of entering exact job titles, company names, or several filters. LinkedIn says the feature combines its professional profile data with AI to show people whose backgrounds match the user’s intent.
How LinkedIn AI search works
The new people search accepts natural language queries and returns ranked results that LinkedIn’s systems consider relevant to the request. The company describes this update as a shift from basic keyword searches to conversational prompts that reflect what the user wants to find.
LinkedIn says the feature uses its existing professional dataset, which includes profile information, roles, skills, and experience, along with AI models to identify members who meet the described criteria.
Until now, finding a person on LinkedIn usually required specific details. Users needed to search by name, company, certification, or job title. If they wanted someone from a particular department in a company, they had to adjust keywords and filters many times to get the correct match.
This made it difficult to find people when users did not know the exact terms or when the person they were searching for did not list that exact title on their profile. The new AI search aims to make discovery easier by matching user intent with profiles, even when the exact keywords are not listed.
At present, the AI powered people search is available only to LinkedIn Premium subscribers in the United States. LinkedIn says it will expand the feature to more regions and membership types in the coming months, although it has not given a specific timeline.
