Lenovo expands AI portfolio with Nvidia partnership and launches Qira platform

Lenovo, the world’s largest personal computer maker, has announced a strategic partnership with United States based AI chip leader Nvidia to help AI cloud providers deploy data centres at a much faster pace. The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, as Lenovo steps up efforts to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence.

Under the new data centre programme, Lenovo said it will combine its liquid cooled hybrid AI infrastructure with Nvidia’s computing platforms. The goal is to help AI cloud providers bring data centres online within weeks, significantly reducing deployment time.

“Lenovo AI Cloud Gigafactory with NVIDIA sets a new benchmark for scalable AI factory design, enabling the world’s most advanced AI environments to be deployed in record-setting time,” Lenovo chief executive officer Yang Yuanqing said during a joint appearance with Nvidia chief executive officer Jensen Huang.

Alongside the partnership, Lenovo unveiled Qira, a new personal AI system designed to operate across Lenovo and Motorola devices. Qira will work on PCs, smartphones, tablets and wearables, including in the background. Lenovo said the system will also be capable of offering services from third party platforms such as travel company Expedia.

At the event, Lenovo also showcased a range of AI driven concepts and devices. These included concept AI glasses, placing Lenovo alongside other major technology companies that are exploring smart eyewear. The company also introduced an AI assistant wearable currently under development, known internally as Project Maxwell. The wearable is designed to provide users with real time assistance.

In addition, Lenovo highlighted its broader AI ambitions by presenting an AI platform, concept hardware devices and the first foldable smartphone under its Motorola brand. The company also manufactures servers and is positioning itself as a full stack AI technology provider, spanning devices, infrastructure and platforms.

The announcements underline it’s push to integrate AI across consumer devices and enterprise infrastructure, as global demand for faster and more scalable AI solutions continues to grow.
