Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched two portals on Wednesday, iPRAGATI and the Cyber Crime Refund portal “Tera Tujhko Arpan,” with the goal of enhancing the state police’s capacity to fight crime. The government also released an application to reopen bank accounts that had been locked as a result of complaints about financial cybercrime.
According to an official government statement, the portals were introduced to maximize the use of technology, enhance citizen-centric services, and increase public confidence in government agencies. With the availability of online services, citizens will no longer need to physically attend police stations.
Every step of an investigation, including filing a chargesheet, conducting a panchnama, arresting the accused, and registering a FIR, requires the completion of paperwork under the eGujCop system.According to the statement, the system now has a new feature that allows the complaint to automatically get an SMS produced by the system anytime any of these four crucial steps are finished.
After a year of testing as a pilot project, the iPRAGATI system (Investigation Progress Report via Automatically Generated Accurate and Timely Information) has now been implemented throughout the state. According to the statement, online registration and real-time status tracking under the “Tera Tujhko Arpan” site guarantee a quick and simple refund procedure.Additionally, people can recover funds lost due to cybercrimes without filing a formal complaint, which makes it a practical and easily accessible choice for the general public.
The state government’s statistics shows that during the previous three years (November 2020 to October 2023), the number of victims of financial cybercrimes more than tripled, and the amount of money stolen more than doubled. However, victims received just 13% of their lost money back, while investigative authorities were only able to collect 21% of the entire amount of money that cybercriminals had stolen.
