Rajasthan Labourer Unknowingly Made Owner of Fake GST Firm in ₹18 Crore Tax Scam

A daily wage laborer from Balotra in Rajasthan’s Churu district, identified as Veerdharam, has become an unwitting

victim of a sophisticated tax fraud, discovering he was made the owner of a fake firm involved in an ₹18-crore scam. The fraud came to light when he attempted to file his income tax return for the Financial Year 2024-25.

Veerdharam was shocked to be informed by tax authorities of massive financial transactions conducted through a Delhi-based firm named “Virdha Traders.” This fraudulent entity had been registered under his identity on January 22, 2025, without his knowledge or consent.

The perpetrators meticulously used Veerdharam’s personal identification documents, including his PAN card and Aadhaar card, to establish the fake firm. They also managed to gain access to his mobile number to receive One-Time Passwords (OTPs), further facilitating the illicit registration and subsequent transactions.

The activities of firm resulted in transactions exceeding ₹18 crore, leading to an evasion of more than ₹3 crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST) dues. This incident highlights a growing trend of fraudsters exploiting the identities of unsuspecting individuals to carry out large-scale tax evasion schemes.
