A new manufacturing push is taking shape as Kodiak AI moves closer to large scale commercial deployment of its self-driving truck technology.
Kodiak AI said on Monday that it has partnered with Bosch to expand the manufacturing of autonomous trucking hardware and sensors. The collaboration is aimed at helping the company shift from pilot deployments to broader commercial rollout.
The move comes as self-driving technology developers face rising pressure from investors to show viable business models. After years of heavy spending and limited revenue, many companies are being pushed to demonstrate clearer paths to profitability. As a result, several players are focusing on freight operations, which follow more predictable routes and offer stronger commercial potential.
Under the partnership, Bosch will supply Kodiak with a range of automotive grade components. These include sensors and vehicle actuation systems such as steering technologies. The companies shared these details at the CES trade show in Las Vegas. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Bosch will also work closely with Kodiak to build a production ready, redundant autonomous platform. This platform will combine hardware, firmware and software interfaces required to deploy Kodiak’s AI powered driver in trucks. The system is designed for use either on factory production lines or through retrofitting existing vehicles.
Kodiak, which went public about 3 months ago, has positioned itself as one of the few autonomous trucking companies operating vehicles without a human safety driver onboard in commercial service. The company said it has already deployed customer owned, driverless trucks, a milestone that many competitors have not yet achieved.
Bosch, the world’s largest automotive supplier by revenue, continues to expand its presence in autonomous mobility. The company supplies sensors, computing systems and vehicle control technologies to automakers and technology firms as part of its broader strategy in the sector.
