Founded in 2022 by Siddharth Mehta, Mohit Bedi and Anup Agrawal, Kiwi enables users to access credit through UPI-linked RuPay cards. The appointment signals a shift from early product adoption to scaling distribution through strong banking and ecosystem partnerships.
The company aims to embed credit into everyday digital payments, aligning with changing consumer behaviour and expanding access to credit for millions of users across India.
Basrani brings over 15 years of experience in the cards and payments ecosystem. He has previously held roles at CRED, OneCard, ICICI Bank and Visa. At CRED, he played a key role in building and scaling partnerships across credit cards, payments and lending with banks and financial institutions.
In his new role, Basrani will focus on expanding market access and strengthening partnerships to accelerate the adoption of credit on UPI.
Kiwi sees this segment as being at an inflection point, with growing potential to integrate credit into daily transactions. The company had raised $24 million in its Series B funding round from Vertex Ventures in August last year, valuing it at over $100 million.
The leadership appointment reflects Kiwi’s focus on scaling its business and tapping into the growing demand for seamless, credit-enabled digital payments.
