A group of students from Kerala has created an AI-powered device called ‘Talk to Write’ that converts spoken words into neatly handwritten notes. The project was displayed at an expo held in Alappuzha, where it received widespread attention for its focus on accessibility and practical innovation.
The device is designed to act as a digital scribe, especially for people with disabilities. By using voice commands, users can generate handwritten notes on A4 paper, written line by line by a pen attached to a CNC plotter. The system is powered by a combination of Raspberry Pi, Arduino (GRBL), Python and CNC technology.
Ajay H, an electronics and communication engineering graduate who led the team, said the project shows how AI and embedded systems can come together to create inclusive solutions. His teammates Aparna Hari, Roobak Hari Nair and Akash G Nair collaborated on the development with a strong focus on real-world application and innovation that benefits society.
The device was one of the highlights at the event, where the Government of Kerala celebrated creative projects that reflect developmental goals. Ajay shared his appreciation for the platform, saying, “The event allowed us to showcase how technology can be used to empower and include people with special needs.”
The ‘Talk to Write’ system is a strong example of how students can build useful and affordable tech solutions using open-source platforms and accessible hardware. It also underlines how innovation at the grassroots level can support people in meaningful ways and help bridge the gap between technology and inclusivity.
