Kerala’s IT sector is set for a major boost as Infopark Kochi begins the third phase of its expansion with the launch of an ambitious project to create a world-class Integrated IT Township.
The project aims to attract leading global tech companies and global capability centres, with an expected investment of around 25,000 crore. It is projected to generate nearly 200,000 direct jobs and double that number in indirect employment.
Infopark and the Greater Cochin Development Authority signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the state capital. Infopark CEO Susanth Kurunthil said the project, being jointly implemented by GCDA and Infopark, will accelerate Kerala’s development journey and transform the state into a knowledge-driven economy.
Spread over 300 acres in Ernakulam district, the township will be developed through a land-pooling model to address challenges in acquiring large land parcels for future-ready projects. GCDA will identify and consolidate land, while Infopark will develop the infrastructure for the township, which will include space for top tech companies and sustainable residential areas.
“Lower operational costs, employable youths with less risk, and comparatively cheaper real estate compared to other states are Kerala’s advantages as a GCC destination,” said Jeevan Varghese, Partner at Lextis 360 Corporate Services LLP. He added that Kochi’s infrastructure, high-quality schools and hospitals, and superior living standards make it an attractive location for sustainable and scalable expansion.
The township will be developed as an “Urban City Brain,” a centralised digital platform that will use real-time data analysis to anticipate and solve problems across sectors including residential, commercial, retail, healthcare, education, and agriculture. AI will play a central role in managing city functions efficiently.
Alongside Phase 3, work on land acquisition for Infopark Phase 4 has also started. The MoU will be followed by feasibility studies, surveys, master planning, and preparation of a detailed project report. GCDA will handle land pooling under Kerala’s Land Pooling Rules, ensuring landowners retain a share of developed plots with higher value, while Infopark will cover costs related to the process.
