A new chapter in Mangaluru’s tech evolution is about to begin, as KEONICS (Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited) gears up to establish a sprawling IT Centre in the city, with completion projected in the next two-and-a-half years. This revelation was made by Sharat Bache Gowda, Chairman of KEONICS and Member of Legislative Assembly, during the vibrant ‘Techwaves 2025: Rise of the Silicon Beach of India’ event held on Friday.
The upcoming IT hub will rise on 3.5 acres of KEONICS-owned land nestled at Bluberry Hills. The project will initially offer four to five lakh square feet of built-up space for IT companies, with future expansion plans stretching up to a massive 10 lakh square feet.
“The bidding process will be rolled out next month, and we plan to host the groundbreaking ceremony in June,” said Mr. Gowda, emphasizing the structured timeline and promising vision.
But the essence of his message went deeper than timelines and infrastructure. Mr. Gowda reflected,
“The government providing incentives to an industry will not help much for its growth. Talent mattered in the growth of an industry.”
This project is more than just real estate, it is a symbol of Mangaluru’s rising digital tide. Hosted by Vertex Workspace, the event spotlighted the city’s growing stature in India’s tech ecosystem. With its coastal charm and strategic positioning, Mangaluru is steadily scripting its identity as a major player in global tech conversations.
Earlier, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in his 2025-26 Budget, named Mangaluru among three cities chosen for Global Technology Centres under KEONICS. These will operate as plug-and-play facilities, with a goal to foster a thriving startup ecosystem not just in Mangaluru, but also in Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Kalaburagi.
Adding to the event’s momentum, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta voiced the long-standing potential of Mangaluru’s tech scene. “Mangaluru-based IT companies should have grown in the city long ago,” he said, while also advocating for growth in petrochemicals, maritime, and healthcare sectors.
Capt. Chowta further shared that he is actively working on a proposal to establish a Maritime University in Mangaluru—another bold step toward positioning the city as a multifaceted innovation hub.
The event also hosted insightful panels discussing the rise of Global Capability Centers (GCCs), deep tech opportunities, and Mangaluru’s emergence in IT services.
