Following the recent discovery of 65 illegally constructed buildings in Kalyan, the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation has introduced a new digital system to prevent such violations in the future. The corporation has launched KD SWIFT, a one window online platform for building permissions, marking the first initiative of its kind in Maharashtra. The system was inaugurated by municipal commissioner Abhinav Goel.
KD SWIFT is designed to end the need for physical visits to municipal offices. Citizens, developers and architects can now obtain approvals from eight departments, including fire, water supply, drainage, property tax and the tree authority, through a single platform. Commissioner Goel said the system will simplify the process, reduce delays, increase accountability and curb malpractice. KDMC has also mandated that all departments must process each application within 28 days, becoming the first civic body in the state to set such a timeline.
Earlier, applicants had to approach multiple departments separately, which often created confusion and slowed down approvals. KD SWIFT removes this complexity by automatically routing applications to the appropriate departments based on the documents provided. Applicants can track the progress of their files in real time, ensuring complete transparency at every stage.
To prevent fraud, including the use of forged documents, KDMC has introduced QR coded certificates for all approvals. These codes will allow instant verification, helping protect homebuyers and the civic administration from misinformation.
The new system has been developed with support from the state Building Plan Management System team and inputs from architects, the MCHI, assistant director of town planning Santosh Doifode and town planner Surendra Tengale. The town planning department has also fully integrated KD SWIFT with the BPMS platform. Users can now submit applications, upload documents, make payments and download permissions entirely online.
With this transparent and citizen friendly digital process, KDMC aims to restore public trust, prevent future illegal construction and set a model for urban governance across Maharashtra.
