Kaynes Technology Launches Satellite Unit

Kaynes Technology has made a major step into the space sector by launching a wholly owned subsidiary named Kaynes Space Technology Pvt. This new company will focus on designing, developing and manufacturing satellites across all categories, catering to applications like communication, Earth observation and scientific research.

In a recent stock exchange filing, Kaynes revealed its plans to invest in research and development for space propulsion systems, AI-based autonomy and modular satellite platforms. The company also aims to work on indigenous launch vehicles. This move aligns with the Indian government’s efforts to boost private participation in the growing space industry.

The stock of Kaynes Technology closed 1.33 percent lower at ₹5,770.55 on Thursday, even as the Sensex rose 1.2 percent. The company’s market cap currently stands at ₹36,980 crore.

Jairam P Sampath, Chief Financial Officer of the subsidiary, shared insights during an earnings call earlier this month. He said, “Space by itself offers huge opportunities in terms of satellites, which can be micro, mini or regular satellites and even launch vehicles and so on and components thereof. We’ve also set up a significant capacity.” He also highlighted Kaynes’ long-standing relationship with the Indian Space Research Organisation, stating, “We’ve been a strategic partner for ISRO for more than a decade and we have participated in most of their prestigious missions and all that. Our ambition is to really be part of the technology evolution that ISRO is bringing in.”

The new subsidiary also plans to develop space-based applications for border surveillance and disaster monitoring, while regularly upgrading its technologies to stay ahead in innovation. This strategic expansion places Kaynes Technology at the heart of India’s rapidly evolving space economy.
