Karnataka set to open bids for PPP IT park project in Mangaluru

The Karnataka government will move a step closer to expanding its technology footprint beyond the capital as it prepares to open bids for a new IT Park project in Mangaluru on December 15.

The bids are for the construction of commercial office spaces under a public private partnership model. Tenders were floated in late October. IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge shared the update while responding to Mangaluru City North MLA Bharath Shetty in the state assembly on Wednesday.

The minister said the government is focused on boosting IT and BT investments across several regions, including Mangaluru, Udupi, and Manipal. He added that the tender guidelines could be revised if needed, following consultations with local MLAs.

The project is estimated at Rs 135 crore and is part of the state’s Beyond Bengaluru initiative. The tender has been issued by Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation, also known as KEONICS.

As per the tender document, the selected bidder will be allotted government land on a 30 year lease under the Design Build Finance Operate Transfer model. There is also a provision to extend the lease for another 30 years. The proposed IT Park will span 3.2 acres and is located near Blueberry Hills Road in Derebail, less than 1 km from National Highway 66.

Companies operating from the tech park will receive support from the state government. This includes skill training assistance, help with registrations, opportunities to participate in technology summits, and global branding support.

The minister expressed confidence that firms will prefer the government backed tech park. He pointed out that a Denmark based Global Capability Center is already operational in Mangaluru and said the city is well positioned to grow into a major IT and BT hub.

In addition to Mangaluru, the government is exploring similar PPP based IT and BT tech parks in other parts of Karnataka. These include Hubballi, Dharwad, Belagavi, Ballari, and Kalaburagi. The move aligns with the state’s broader strategy to drive balanced regional development through technology investments.
