The Karnataka government has announced the launch of KATALYST, a dedicated Ease of Doing Business cell aimed at supporting Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in the state. The initiative was introduced ahead of the 28th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS), scheduled to be held from November 18 to 20.
KATALYST is part of the state’s GCC Policy 2024 to 2029, which focuses on streamlining new investments, speeding up the setup of GCCs, and strengthening their integration with the innovation ecosystem. Karnataka aims to establish 500 new GCCs by 2029, creating 350,000 jobs and generating 50 billion dollars in economic output.
The announcement was made during a breakfast meeting attended by over 200 CEOs, in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The meeting also served to share details of BTS 2025 and engage with industry leaders from various sectors on strategies to maintain Karnataka’s leadership in technology.
Industry associations brought together CEOs, founders, and innovators from sectors such as IT and deeptech, biotech and health tech, electronics and semiconductors, defence and space tech, fintech, and animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC) for discussions with the Chief Minister.
The gathering also featured addresses from the chairpersons of Karnataka’s four Vision Groups — S Gopalakrishnan for IT and Electronics, Dr Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw for Biotech, Prashanth Prakash for Start-ups, and Dr AS Kiran Kumar for Space.
“The launch of KATALYST will make Karnataka one of India’s most business-friendly states. Karnataka is known for its technology leadership. From the first IT policy in 1997 to the GCC policy in 2024, we have always planned for the future. Karnataka is India’s largest software-exporting state, contributing 44 per cent of the nation’s software exports. The IT and ITeS sector accounts for 26 per cent of our state’s economy. We host over 875 GCCs, which is 30 per cent of the total number of GCCs in India, and are building tech clusters beyond Bengaluru to ensure growth across the state,” said the Chief Minister.
BTS 2025 is expected to bring together more than 20,000 start-up founders, 1,000 investors, 600 speakers, and 1,200 exhibitors from over 60 countries and all 36 states and union territories. IT, BT, and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge announced that the event will feature 10 thematic tracks, over 100 knowledge sessions, more than 5,000 curated meetings, and a dedicated focus on start-ups through the Startup Springboard platform.
The theme for BTS 2025 is Futurise, which calls for imagining, innovating, and implementing technologies that will shape the coming decades and drive transformation across multiple sectors of the technology ecosystem.
