Marking a major milestone in his two-decade journey with the bank. In this key leadership role, Kalana will lead the bank’s technology strategy, innovation roadmap, and digital transformation initiatives, reinforcing Nations Trust Bank’s reputation as a pioneer in digital banking across Sri Lanka.
With more than 20 years of experience in information technology, digital enablement, and enterprise transformation, Kalana has played a crucial role in shaping the bank’s digital growth. Prior to this appointment, he served as deputy chief information officer, where he led the IT department and strengthened governance frameworks. He also ensured cybersecurity resilience, managed critical infrastructure with an exceptional 99.9 per cent system uptime, and drove operational excellence through strong policy implementation, regulatory compliance, and disaster recovery initiatives.
Earlier, as vice president of digital enablement and software development, Kalana led several major technology projects, including the Nations Direct Mobile App, FriMi Mobile Wallet, and the Nations Direct Internet Banking platform. He also implemented data governance frameworks and introduced business automation solutions using IBM Filenet, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and customer experience.
Kalana began his career as a junior software engineer at Creative Software, where he developed web-based solutions for both local and international clients. His early work laid the foundation for a career dedicated to innovation, digital advancement, and strategic execution within the banking industry.
Through his vision and leadership, Kalana continues to drive Nations Trust Bank’s commitment to building a secure, efficient, and future-ready digital ecosystem for its customers.
