John J. Latella Steps In as New CEO of USSSA, Ushering in a Visionary Era for Youth Sports

Wishing Mr. John J. Latella greater responsibilities and exciting challenges in this impressive new chapter!

The United States Specialty Sports Association, headquartered in Viera and celebrated as the top multisport body in the nation, has announced John J. Latella as its new Chief Executive Officer. This marks a transformative moment for USSSA, as it positions itself to elevate the youth sports landscape across America.

Latella, a veteran business leader with over 25 years of executive experience, brings a rare combination of entrepreneurial spirit, operational excellence, and a passion for purpose-driven leadership. His selection followed an extensive nationwide search. Previously the CEO and co-owner of Garden Fresh Gourmet, Latella led the company through a remarkable growth journey, culminating in its acquisition by a global food brand in 2015.

A staunch advocate for community service, Latella has long been involved in nonprofit leadership, including his work with the Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board and major philanthropic campaigns that have raised millions for community upliftment.

“What initially drew me to USSSA was its unique ability to impact lives through sports at every level, from grass-roots to elite-competitive,” said Latella. “This organization doesn’t just organize games. It builds communities, creates lifelong memories, and opens doors for athletes of all ages and backgrounds.”

In his new role, Latella plans to enhance the overall athlete and family experience, drive operational modernization through advanced technologies, and strengthen the national identity of USSSA. His focus will be on building trust within the USSSA network, broadening access to sports for youth, and creating meaningful opportunities for all participants.

“In the short term, success is about listening, learning and quickly creating wins that benefit our athletes, coaches, directors and families,” he shared. “In the long term, it’s about ensuring USSSA grows in a sustainable, mission-driven way, leading with integrity and measurable impact.”

USSSA currently sanctions over 35,000 events and supports 4.5 million participants across 47 states in sports ranging from baseball and softball to basketball and soccer. Latella aims to amplify the digital reach of the organization while reinforcing community engagement and inclusion.
