Reliance Jio has announced a collaboration with Google that will allow Jio subscribers to access the Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model at no cost for 18 months. This offer provides free access to the paid Gemini Pro AI plan, which is valued at Rs 34,100, for a large user base of 482.70 million Jio customers. The development comes shortly after another major AI service introduced free access to Indian users. A similar offer was also earlier introduced by another telecom operator that provided complimentary access to an AI service for one year.
In a statement, Reliance said, “This collaboration brings together Reliance’s unmatched scale, connectivity, and ecosystem reach with Google’s world class AI technology. Together, these initiatives are aimed at democratizing AI access and strengthening the digital foundation for India’s AI driven future.”
Google Gemini AI is a multimodal system designed to process and understand different types of input together. It includes three model tiers named Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro and Gemini Ultra. Gemini Pro is the paid tier and offers advanced features including access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, higher usage limits for creating images and videos through Google Nano Banana and Veo 3.1 models, more tools for research and learning through Notebook LM, and 2 TB of cloud storage.
To claim the offer, Jio users need to register through the MyJio app. The company has stated that the offer will first be available for users aged 18 to 25 and will then expand to more users. After tapping the banner in the app and registering, users will receive a confirmation message stating that the request has been received and further steps will follow.
In the announcement, Reliance also shared plans to develop its own enterprise AI agents within Gemini Enterprise. Mukesh D Ambani said, “Reliance Intelligence aims to make intelligence services accessible to 1.45 billion Indians. Through our collaboration with strategic and long term partners like Google, we aim to make India not just AI enabled but AI empowered.” Sundar Pichai said, “Today’s announcement will put Google’s cutting edge AI tools in the hands of consumers, businesses, and India’s vibrant developer community.”
