Reliance Jio has rolled out two new Intra Circle Roaming recharge plans for customers in the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circle. These plans allow users to access the BSNL network in areas where Jio’s coverage is limited. Jio said, “BSNL ICR service is available on select prepaid recharges offered by Jio. This allows customers to use voice, data, and SMS services by connecting to the BSNL network within the same geographical circle, at select locations.”
The plans are priced at Rs 196 and Rs 396, each offering a validity of twenty eight days. The Rs 196 plan provides two gigabytes of data, one thousand minutes of voice calls, and one thousand SMS. The Rs 396 plan offers ten gigabytes of data along with the same voice and SMS benefits.
Jio has stated that these plans are meant only for usage on the BSNL ICR network. They cannot be used on the Jio network or on any other operator’s network. Only customers who have an active ICR pack can connect to BSNL under these plans.
According to the terms, the ICR recharges will activate only after the device connects to the BSNL network. The plans are currently available to subscribers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to support connectivity in areas where Jio coverage is weak. Jio said that ICR plans will remain queued after recharge. “These plans will be automatically activated upon the first usage of any voice, SMS, or data service. Once activated, the plan will remain valid for its defined validity period.”
The introduction of these plans highlights Jio’s push to improve rural and semi urban connectivity by using BSNL’s infrastructure. More details are expected as the rollout progresses.
A recent field test also showcased the effectiveness of ICR between BSNL and Jio. “In a major stride towards connecting the unconnected, Neeraj Mittal, Secretary Telecom and Chairman DCC, inspected a 4G saturation site at Village Ummed, Rajasthan. During the visit, seamless intra circle roaming between BSNL and Reliance Jio was successfully tested,” the Department of Telecommunications shared. Villagers expressed gratitude for BSNL 4G access as officials outlined steps to improve last mile connectivity.
In related developments, another telecom operator announced that it has deployed government funded 4G towers under the Digital Bharat Nidhi program in partnership with the Department of Telecommunications. These sites support rural and remote areas across several states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar.
