Jio Expands AirFiber 5G in Punjab’s Remote Villages to Uplift Rural Digital India

In the ever-evolving tale of India’s digital transformation, Reliance Jio is weaving a new chapter—this time by empowering rural Punjab with affordable, customised AirFiber 5G plans. With a focus on reaching the underserved and low-income communities, Jio is pushing forward with the dream of a truly connected Viksit Bharat by 2047, under the broader vision of Digital India.

According to recent insights, including figures referenced from Statista, internet penetration in India has soared from a modest 14 percent in 2014 to over 52 percent in 2024. Jio, playing a pivotal role in this surge, claims to handle nearly 60 percent of the country’s mobile data traffic since it entered the telecom space.

Jio’s Fixed Wireless Access service, also known as JioAirFiber, is at the heart of this digital revolution. Through this, even the most isolated border villages such as Dera Baba Nanak, Manwal Mangwal, and Kalewala are now connected to seamless, high-speed internet.

Where once silence lingered in the absence of connectivity, now flows the rhythm of online education, digital healthcare, modern agriculture, remote work, and entertainment.

“Earlier, these areas lacked reliable internet, hampering internet connectivity. With the introduction of JioAirFiber, the entire Punjab including these villages now enjoying truly uninterrupted super-fast 5G internet—improving the digital life, and infrastructure,” stated Jio.

With this powerful connectivity, students can now tap into global classrooms, healthcare centers can host virtual consultations, and farmers can unlock knowledge about weather forecasts, market prices, and innovative practices. Even households have become digital hubs for entertainment and livelihood.

Jio shared in a blog post dated April 30 that as of February 2025, India’s digital user base has touched 806 million. The brand believes this is just the beginning, as it continues to solve the last-mile connectivity puzzle that has long hindered rural growth.

As fiberless technology brings speed and reach to corners once thought unreachable, Punjab stands not just as a region, but a beacon for what digital inclusion looks like in action.
