Jio Dominates India’s Telecom Circles Subscriber Gap Widens

Reliance Jio has significantly widened its lead over Vodafone Idea in subscriber numbers across India’s most populous and telecom-rich circles, according to the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on May 29, and visualized by data analytics firm Thurro.

The data positions Reliance Jio as the apparent wireless market leader in these key regions, demonstrating a substantial subscriber gap over Vodafone Idea in every overlapping geographical area. This disparity frequently exceeds 20 million subscribers within a single state, highlighting the shifting landscape of India’s fiercely competitive telecom sector.

A striking example of this growing divergence can be seen in Maharashtra. Reliance Jio’s subscriber base in the state stands at a robust 43.80 million, making it the largest circle for the company. In stark contrast, Vodafone Idea recorded just 19.28 million subscribers in the same circle, indicating a gap of more than 24 million.

This continued expansion by Reliance Jio further solidifies its dominant position in the Indian wireless market, underscoring the challenges faced by its competitors in attracting and retaining subscribers across the nation’s key telecommunications hubs.
