India’s space agency ISRO is gearing up for an ambitious phase with plans to launch seven missions before March 2026, including its first uncrewed flight under the Gaganyaan programme. Chairman V Narayanan shared the update on Sunday after the successful launch of the communication satellite CMS-03 aboard the LVM3-M05 rocket from Sriharikota.
He said the Gaganyaan programme, which aims to send Indian astronauts into space, is progressing steadily and has reached an advanced stage. “Our Gaganyaan programme is progressing well. It is in advanced stages. All hardware have arrived at Sriharikota and integration of the hardware is happening. We have planned three uncrewed mission. The first uncrewed mission, ‘G1 Mission’, is going to be achieved before the end of the current financial year,” Narayanan said.
The Gaganyaan initiative includes three uncrewed test missions ahead of the crewed launch. The first of these, the ‘G1 Mission,’ is expected to lift off by March 2026. Narayanan also noted that this push is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s broader vision for ISRO to achieve 50 rocket launches over the next five years.
He added that the agency has a clear roadmap for upcoming launches, saying, “We have planned seven launches to take place before the end of this financial year. It is by March 2026.”
Providing more details, Narayanan mentioned that following Sunday’s LVM3-M05 mission, another LVM3 rocket launch will carry a commercial communication satellite for a client. In addition, ISRO has scheduled three PSLV missions, one of which is for a NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL) customer satellite. NSIL serves as the commercial arm of ISRO.
He also confirmed plans for a technology development mission, PSLV-N1, and a GSLV-F17 rocket launch before March 2026. “So many developments are taking place. We have also planned for a GSLV-F17 rocket mission before March 2026,” he said.
Narayanan acknowledged the challenges but expressed confidence in ISRO’s ability to meet its goals. “I know it is not an easy job. It is a tough job. But I know that we will accomplish these activities in future. Team ISRO is geared up to meet the vision of the Prime Minister to launch 50 missions in the next 5 years,” he added.
