ISRO has rescheduled the launch of BlueBird 6, the largest commercial satellite built in the United States, to December 21. The mission was earlier planned for December 15, but the change was made due to extended pre launch activities, including the integration of the LVM3 launch vehicle.
BlueBird 6 is being developed in collaboration with US based AST SpaceMobile and represents a major step forward in global communication technology. The satellite is designed to deliver direct to device broadband connectivity, with a focus on reaching underserved and remote regions across the world.
Weighing 6.5 tons, the satellite is the heaviest of its kind and will be launched from Sriharikota aboard ISRO’s LVM3 rocket on the revised date.
One of the most striking features of BlueBird 6 is its phased array antenna system, which spans nearly 2,400 square feet. This is the largest antenna array ever sent into space. The technology allows the satellite to beam broadband signals directly to mobile devices without relying on ground based communication stations.
To ensure low signal latency, BlueBird 6 will be positioned in Low Earth Orbit. This makes it especially suitable for regions that lack reliable communication infrastructure.
The upcoming launch is being seen as a strong demonstration of India’s growing role in complex global commercial space missions. It also highlights the strength of Indo US collaboration in advanced space technology.
The LVM3 launch vehicle has undergone extensive testing and is known for its heavy lift capability. The system is designed to place large and valuable satellites into precise orbits, supporting stable deployment and long term operation.
With BlueBird 6, ISRO is set to handle one of its most ambitious commercial launches to date, reinforcing confidence in its ability to support next generation communication missions on a global scale.
