ISB Launches ISB Discover to Make Research More Accessible

The Indian School of Business (ISB) has introduced a new digital platform designed to make its research accessible to a wider audience, responding to what it calls “a greater appetite for research-backed ideas in India.” The platform, called ISB Discover, aims to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world application, offering insights that can be used by policymakers, business leaders, journalists and students.

Dean and professor of organisational behaviour at ISB, Madan Pillutla, said, “In India today, there is a greater appetite for research-backed ideas than there was maybe 20 or 25 years ago.” He explained that the platform will present research in a practical and jargon-free format, covering subjects such as financial inclusion, healthcare operations, transportation, corporate governance, behavioural science and public policy.

ISB Discover will feature content in multiple easy-to-consume formats, including articles, videos, podcasts and infographics. Pillutla noted that the inspiration came partly from the work of global authors like Malcolm Gladwell, who have popularised management and social science concepts. “We always did this kind of work, but never thought about putting it out in the world for the larger population to consume until people started resonating with these ideas in books. That made us realise these ideas have legs beyond our immediate academic and corporate audiences,” he said.

The initiative focuses on accessibility and relevance rather than academic rankings. “This is not tied to rankings,” said Pillutla. “Rankings track underlying research, but this is a part of building mindshare among India’s decision-makers.”

The ultimate goal of ISB Discover is to extend the impact of the school’s work beyond the classroom and research community, placing knowledge directly into the hands of those shaping policy and business decisions in India.
