Ahead of their expected September 2026 debut, early reports indicate that Apple’s upcoming Pro iPhones could deliver one of the most significant hardware updates in recent years. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are tipped to feature noticeable design refinements, upgraded cameras, a larger battery, and enhanced internal components, signalling a more substantial generational upgrade.
According to a report by a technology publication, Apple may introduce a wider range of colour options with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. With the shift to titanium frames in recent Pro models, the company is reportedly exploring new finishes such as brown, purple, and burgundy. The report also suggested that a black variant may still be missing, which could make the new lineup visually more diverse than earlier models.
The Dynamic Island is also expected to shrink slightly. Since its debut in 2022, the cutout has largely remained unchanged. Apple is now said to be working on moving some Face ID components under the display, reducing the overall size of the island. Earlier speculation around a full hole-punch design now appears unlikely.
On the camera front, both Pro models may receive an upgraded telephoto lens. The current f/2.8 telephoto lens used on the iPhone 17 Pro has reportedly remained unchanged for several years, and Apple could move to a wider aperture on the iPhone 18 Pro. The company is also said to be considering a variable aperture main camera, at least on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, allowing the lens to physically adjust based on lighting conditions. This could improve low-light shots, exposure control, and natural background blur.
The report also noted that Apple may drop touch gestures for the camera control button, retaining only pressure-based input.
Battery capacity could see a modest jump, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max tipped to feature a 5200mAh battery, up from 5088mAh on the previous Pro Max. Combined with efficiency gains from Apple’s latest silicon and modem, battery life could improve further.
The iPhone 18 lineup is also expected to adopt Apple’s C2 modem across all models. The new modem is said to be more power-efficient and may even support satellite-based 5G data. Powering the Pro models could be the new A20 Pro chip, reportedly built on a 2nm process, alongside a possible new N2 networking chip.
