Apple’s upcoming iOS 26 update is set to bring a significant boost to charging speeds for the iPhone 16 series. According to a recent report, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 26 will support up to 25W charging speeds using Qi 2.2 wireless chargers. Until now, these models could only achieve 25W wireless charging on Apple’s own MagSafe chargers, while third party Qi chargers were limited to 15W.
The change was spotted in a recent iOS 26 beta release, which appears to have added support for the Qi 2.2 standard. It is still unclear if the iPhone 16 series has already received official Qi 2.2 certification, though that is expected to be in place by the time Apple rolls out the stable version of iOS 26. Based on Apple’s own data, 25W charging speeds allow devices such as the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro to charge from zero to 50 per cent in about 30 minutes.
Apple first unveiled iOS 26 at its WWDC event in June, followed by multiple developer and public beta updates. The new operating system will introduce a redesigned Liquid Glass UI across the iPhone interface, giving the Lock Screen, Home Screen, Control Centre and apps a sleek transparent look. Other expected features include real time call translation, expanded Visual Intelligence, AI powered battery optimisation and an updated Phone app.
As for the release date, Apple has not provided a fixed schedule, but the company typically launches its new iOS version alongside the latest iPhones in September. The iOS 26 rollout is likely to happen within days of the iPhone 17 series debut. Last year, the iPhone 16 was launched on 9 September, while the iOS 18 update was released on 16 September.
