Second international airport planned for South Bengaluru, says Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar

At an event focused on Bengaluru’s future development, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar urged citizens to support the government’s ongoing work to upgrade the city’s infrastructure. He said the administration is committed to easing congestion and improving connectivity as Bengaluru continues to attract global investment.

Speaking at the inauguration of the twenty eighth edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit twenty twenty five, he said “We know your problem and we are working on it. Rs 1.5 lakh crore is being invested to improve the city’s infrastructure with double decker flyovers, twin tunnel roads and other projects, covering 132 km. Have confidence in us. A world class city is being created in Bidadi and the second international airport will come up in South Bengaluru. All this will decongest the city.”

He referred to Mumbai as an example of how collaboration between the central and state governments has helped drive large infrastructure projects such as tunnel roads. He said similar cooperation should be seen in Karnataka as well.

Shivakumar added that global investors continue to place strong faith in Karnataka’s potential. He said “People from across the globe are investing in Karnataka. They see Karnataka as the future tech capital of the world. They have confidence in people of Karnataka. Bengaluru’s infrastructure is improving and the population too is increasing. We all should build and support Bengaluru’s growth and not criticise it.”

The state government is also working on creating a dedicated investment cell for overseas Indians. Alongside this, a new policy is being designed to strengthen education for rural children. The Deputy Chief Minister called on companies to contribute through corporate social responsibility funds to improve rural education and encouraged businesses to expand into tier two and tier three cities.
