Intel Foundry has witnessed a sudden leadership transition, with Kevin O’Buckley leaving the company to join Qualcomm after 2 years at the helm of the unit.
Confirming the development, an Intel spokesperson said, “We thank Kevin O’Buckley for his contributions to Foundry Services and wish him the very best as he pursues an opportunity outside the company. Intel Foundry remains one of Intel’s highest strategic priorities, and under Naga Chandrasekaran’s leadership the organization is focused on disciplined execution and delivering for customers.”
Following O’Buckley’s departure, Naga Chandrasekaran has taken charge of Intel Foundry. He previously led front-end process technology development and manufacturing within the company.
Chandrasekaran now assumes a broader mandate as Chief Technology and Operations Officer and head of Intel Foundry. In this expanded role, he will oversee the development of advanced process technologies along with the day-to-day execution of Intel’s global manufacturing network.
This marks a structural shift in leadership responsibilities. Earlier, O’Buckley and his predecessor Stuart Pann were responsible for operational execution and expansion of manufacturing capabilities. However, they did not directly oversee the development of advanced fabrication technologies.
Under the new structure, both technology development and manufacturing execution are aligned under a single leadership role, as Intel continues to position Foundry Services as a key strategic priority.
The leadership change comes at a critical time as Intel works to strengthen its foundry business and compete more aggressively in the global semiconductor manufacturing space.
