Instagram is testing a new update for its Restyle feature that uses generative AI. This feature is currently available in Stories and in the Edits app. It helps users change images and videos using simple prompts. They can add, remove or modify elements in their content. It also gives access to preset styles that can be applied instantly.
As per reports, the platform is now testing a new option called Restyle Text. This will allow users to generate custom text styles using natural language prompts. Early testers have seen in built presets like Chrome and Balloon. Users can also type a prompt to create unique and creative font styles.
Restyle is a recent addition to Instagram. It works with Meta’s own AI models. The feature is designed to offer easy and direct editing tools. In Stories, users can upload an image and tap the paintbrush icon in the top right corner. This opens a menu at the bottom that includes options like Add, Remove, Change and several preset designs. These can be viewed by scrolling sideways.
Reports suggest that the Restyle Text update will let users add more customised fonts to their Stories. One example shared showed text with party hats on each letter. Other designs included shiny chrome effects and balloon styled characters.
The Edits app also supports Restyle for short video clips. These AI generated effects can be applied and then imported or shared.
Meta has not yet confirmed a wide rollout of the Restyle Text feature. It is still being tested with a limited group of users. However, if introduced broadly, it may give creators and everyday users more creative ways to personalise their content on the platform.
This update signals more AI powered enhancements coming to image and video editing on Instagram in the near future.
