Instagram has announced two significant updates that underline the growing importance of India for the platform. With millions of creators and one of the largest user communities in the world, the Meta owned platform is expanding its artificial intelligence powered translation tools and introducing new Indian language fonts. These updates aim to help creators express themselves more easily and connect with wider audiences.
Meta AI translations to support five additional Indian languages
Instagram has confirmed that artificial intelligence translations for Reels will soon be available in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi. These will be added to the existing options which already include English, Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese.
Creators will now be able to translate Reels into these new languages through Meta AI. The company has stated that the feature keeps the original voice quality intact during translation. An optional lip sync tool will also adjust mouth movements so that the translated audio appears natural on video. With India’s diverse and multilingual audience, this update is expected to help creators grow their reach across regions.
New Indian fonts to be added to Instagram editing tools
Instagram is also introducing Indian language fonts for its editing features. Users will soon have access to Devanagari and Bengali Assamese scripts. These will allow creators to style captions and on screen text in languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese.
The new fonts will appear under the text section in the editing timeline. If a user’s device language is set to one of the supported scripts, those fonts will appear first by default. Others can filter fonts according to their preferred language. The company has confirmed that the rollout will begin on Android in the coming days.
These updates follow a series of new tools introduced by Instagram in recent weeks. Creators now have access to artificial intelligence based restyling for photos and videos, improved editing features including bulk caption changes and video reversing, a larger sound effects library and lip sync tools that animate still images.
