Instagram adds AI dubbing and lip sync support for 5 Indian languages

Instagram has announced the expansion of its artificial intelligence powered voice translation and lip syncing feature for Reels to more languages. The platform said on Friday that it is now rolling out support for five Indian languages, in addition to the four already available. The update reflects the growing importance of India for the Meta owned platform and its focus on early feature launches in the market. Instagram had first revealed these languages in November 2025 and has now begun making them available to users and creators.

In a press note, Instagram shared two India focused updates that were announced at a “House of Instagram” event in Mumbai. The first is the addition of more Indian languages for Reels. The second is the introduction of Indian language fonts for captions and in video text. The company said these updates “not only underline India’s importance for Meta, but also further the possibilities for creators to reach new audiences.”

The platform is now adding support for Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. With this feature, creators can use Meta AI to dub their Reels with synced lip movements. Once enabled, viewers will be able to change the language of a Reel from the available options. These new languages join the existing support for English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Instagram said the translated videos will not sound robotic. Meta AI will retain the creator’s voice, tone, pitch, and emotion. The lip syncing feature will also align the audio with the speaker’s mouth movements for a more natural viewing experience.

Separately, Indian creators will also receive new font options on the Edits app. This will allow them to add captions and in video text in Devanagari and Bengali Assamese scripts for languages such as Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, and Marathi. This update will start rolling out to Android users in the coming days.
