Infosys deepens ExxonMobil partnership to build energy-efficient AI data centres

In a move aimed at tackling rising power demands from generative AI, Infosys on Thursday announced the expansion of its strategic collaboration with ExxonMobil to develop and deploy advanced Data Centre Immersion Fluids.

The partnership will focus on improving energy efficiency and maximising power utilisation in AI-driven data centres. Immersion cooling technology submerges servers in specially engineered fluids, offering an alternative to traditional air cooling. This approach supports higher compute density and lowers overall energy consumption.

Infosys will integrate ExxonMobil’s Data Centre Immersion Fluids with Infosys Topaz, its AI-first services and platforms suite, and Infosys Cobalt, its cloud portfolio. Topaz will enable real-time optimisation of cooling systems, including smarter energy management and predictive maintenance. Cobalt will provide a secure and scalable cloud foundation for enterprise deployment.

Ashiss Kumar Dash, EVP and Global Head – Services, Utilities, Resources, Energy and Enterprise Sustainability at Infosys, said the expanded collaboration strengthens next-generation digital infrastructure. “By leveraging Infosys Topaz for real-time AI-driven optimisation and Infosys Cobalt for secure, scalable cloud deployment with ExxonMobil’s advanced energy expertise, we are addressing the urgent need for more efficient high-performance digital infrastructure,” he said.

Dash added that the initiative could help reduce data centre energy costs and carbon emissions, while enabling enterprises to scale AI workloads responsibly.

Alistair Westwood, Global Marketing Manager at ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company, said the collaboration supports ExxonMobil’s efforts to apply its thermal management expertise to digital infrastructure. “Infosys’ suite of AI and digital services is enabling us to pilot and adopt infrastructure that is smarter, efficient, and more resilient,” he said.

The joint solutions will target hyperscalers, global enterprises, and public sector organisations across financial services, telecom, manufacturing, energy, and government sectors.

The announcement comes as AI demand reshapes enterprise technology spending. With growing generative AI pilots and high-performance computing workloads, data centre operators face rising energy use and sustainability pressures. For IT services companies like Infosys, green AI and infrastructure optimisation are emerging as new growth areas beyond traditional services.

Infosys Ltd, in its January results for the quarter ended December, reported a sequential rise in profit and highlighted stronger deal momentum. The company reiterated its focus on AI-led platforms such as Infosys Topaz and Infosys Cobalt, alongside operating efficiency and digital transformation mandates.
