Infineon Technologies, the global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, has announced its plan to set up a Global Capability Centre (GCC) at Gift City, Gujarat. This move aligns with the state’s ambitious vision to foster technological innovation and create thousands of job opportunities. The new centre will employ 400 engineers and marks the first GCC to be established in Gujarat.
At the launch event, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel shared, “Last month, the State government revealed its GCC policy. In a short time, the first GCC in the State is being inaugurated.” The inauguration ceremony was graced by Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon Technologies AG, and other senior officials from the company.
This facility will be Infineon’s second GCC in India, following its success in Bengaluru. Speaking about the decision to choose Gujarat, Vinay Shenoy, MD of Infineon Technologies India, said, “When we began thinking about setting up Infineon’s second GCC in India, we did not want to follow the conventional path of choosing another major technological hub. We wanted to be part of an emerging and unique ecosystem with massive potential.” He added, “Ahmedabad has been quietly transforming into a major tech hub, starting with fintech and more recently semiconductors. The fact that most manufacturing investments are happening around Ahmedabad speaks volumes about its potential to become India’s semiconductor capital.”
Shenoy continued to highlight the importance of the new centre, emphasizing, “This centre, with 400 highly talented engineers, will play a crucial role in strengthening Infineon’s global R&D and digitisation initiatives. It will help us drive cutting-edge semiconductor solutions that will shape the future of mobility, energy efficiency, and security. Apart from talent, Ahmedabad has what we need – a rapidly growing tech ecosystem, affordable living, excellent infrastructure, and strong government policy push, making Gujarat the centre of India’s semiconductor ambitions.”
Jochen Hanebeck also shared his strategic vision for the future, stating that the new GCC would engage in R&D for semiconductor chip design, product software, supply chain management, and systems engineering. “India is an important, strategic market for Infineon, presenting immense opportunities for growth. We have set an ambitious target to achieve €1 billion in annual revenues in India by 2030,” Hanebeck said.
