India’s leading airline, IndiGo, has taken a significant leap in its fleet expansion by ordering an additional 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, doubling its existing commitment to this advanced model. The airline had already placed an initial order for 30 A350s last year, with an option to acquire 70 more in the future, signaling an ambitious growth strategy.
Founded in 2006, IndiGo currently has over 900 aircraft on order, preparing to transform air travel with a modern and extensive fleet in the coming years.
As part of its bold vision to become a truly global carrier by 2030, IndiGo is also broadening its international network. This year, the airline plans to launch flights to 10 new international destinations using leased Boeing 787 planes, enhancing connectivity for travelers worldwide.
In a landmark move, IndiGo has announced a powerful alliance with global giants Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM, and Virgin Atlantic. This partnership aims to create one of the industry’s most comprehensive networks linking India to Europe and North America.
IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers expressed enthusiasm, stating, “IndiGo has embarked on an ambitious journey to become a global airline by 2030. This partnership represents another important milestone to pursue commercial synergies, operational excellence and innovation.” He added, “We are particularly excited to start our long-haul expansion from this Summer and connect with our partners’ networks to provide greater access to Europe and North America.”
Echoing this sentiment, Delta’s CEO said, “This agreement is another example of our commitment to making travel more connected, more inclusive and more accessible.” The collaborative effort promises unmatched convenience, service, and reliability for customers across continents.
Air France-KLM’s CEO noted India’s strategic importance, emphasizing their dedication to expanding presence and connectivity in the region. Virgin Atlantic’s CEO also highlighted the deepening ties, remarking, “In our 25th year of flying to India, we’re delighted to build on our Joint Venture… connecting four of the world’s largest economies, enhancing the travel experience for our guests.”
This visionary collaboration, alongside IndiGo’s expanded fleet, marks a new dawn in international air travel, blending cutting-edge technology with seamless global connectivity.
