Passengers travelling on India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train between Howrah and Guwahati will receive high-quality mill-made linen as part of the onboard experience. The semi-high-speed sleeper service will be operated and maintained by Northeast Frontier Railway.
In a directive to the Northeast Frontier Railway, Railway Board has instructed officials to arrange sufficient quantities of premium linen for passengers across all classes. The move is aimed at ensuring comfort and delivering an upgraded travel experience on the new service.
According to the letter, each passenger will be provided with a standard linen kit that includes a bed sheet, a pillow cushion with cover, a wool-rich premium blanket with a blanket cover, and a hand towel. The Railway Board stated, “Considering the premium nature of the service, it has been decided that high-quality mill-made linen items shall be provided to all classes of passengers in this train to ensure comfort and enhanced travel experience during the journey. The standard linen set will include a bed sheet, pillow cushion with cover, wool-rich premium blanket along with blanket cover, and a hand towel.”
The letter also confirmed that the inauguration of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is planned for the second week of January. “The train shall operate between Kamakhya and Howrah and shall be maintained under the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway.”
This service marks the first-ever Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, designed as a fully air-conditioned premium offering with modern onboard passenger amenities. It is expected to set a new benchmark for long-distance overnight rail travel in India.
The rake composition will include a total of 16 coaches. This will comprise 1 First Class AC coach (1A), 4 Second Class AC coaches (2A), and 11 Third Class AC coaches (3A). The total passenger carrying capacity of the train is approximately 823 passengers across all AC classes.
The Howrah–Guwahati Vande Bharat Sleeper will connect eastern and northeastern India, combining faster travel with enhanced comfort as Indian Railways continues to modernise its long-distance services.
