India’s Global Capability Centres (GCC) to Exceed 5,000 in Two Years, Says ICAI President

India is poised for a significant surge in its Global Capability Centre (GCC) landscape, with the number of such centers projected to surpass 5,000 within the next two years. This optimistic forecast was shared by Charanjot Singh Nanda, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Currently, India hosts approximately 1,700 GCCs, making the projected increase to over 5,000 a testament to the country’s growing appeal as a global talent and innovation hub.

“Already around 80,000 chartered accountants are employed in GCCs. Our vision is not just to be employees. We want to drive the entire course – learn, innovate, and create entrepreneurial opportunities,” ICAI President said.

He said CAs were playing a “pivotal role in delivering strategic and operational excellence in areas such as finance, compliance, taxation, risk management, governance, and business analytics.”

Bengaluru is expected to retain its dominant position, continuing to lead this growth by accommodating over one-third of India’s total GCC workforce. Other major cities like Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Mumbai, and the National Capital Region (NCR) Delhi are also identified as key hubs that will contribute significantly to this expansion.

Furthermore, the forecast indicates substantial growth in the GCC market stemming from Tier 2 cities, signaling a decentralization of the sector and broader regional development.

This anticipated growth underscores India’s strengthening role in providing specialized services and driving innovation for global enterprises.
