Indian Railways is expected to introduce the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train this month, marking a major step forward in modern rail travel. Designed for long and medium distance journeys, the train will combine comfort, speed and advanced technology to further transform passenger experience.
Last month at an event in Bhavnagar, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the sleeper version would arrive soon. “Vande Sleeper is coming very soon in September,” he said. While the exact launch date has not been revealed, preparations are in the final stages.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on 25 July 2025, the minister stated that the first rake of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is undergoing commissioning. “The first prototype of Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset has already been manufactured. Based on the extensive field trials and the experience gained therein, the first rake of Vande Bharat sleeper train is undergoing commissioning,” he explained. The route for the inaugural service has not yet been finalised and will be decided by the Railway Board.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been designed to achieve speeds of up to 180 kilometres per hour.
Equipped with world class facilities, the train includes integrated reading lights with USB charging points, modern public announcement and visual information systems, digital display panels, security cameras, modular pantries, and special berths and toilets for differently abled passengers. For additional luxury, the First AC coach will feature showers with hot water.
This launch is expected to significantly raise the standard of train journeys across India and set a new benchmark in passenger comfort and speed.
