Indian Companies Gear Up for AI-Driven Future of Work, Says Microsoft Report

Microsoft report has revealed that Indian businesses are making significant shifts to prepare for an AI-led future of work, with most planning to integrate artificial intelligence into daily operations. According to the 2025 Work Trend Index, 93 per cent of business leaders in India expect to use AI agents to support employees within the next 12 to 18 months.

The findings highlight how companies are reworking their structures to enable collaboration between humans and AI. About 59 per cent of leaders surveyed said their organisations are already using AI agents to automate tasks across teams and processes. Such firms, described as “frontier companies,” are leading the adoption of new work models.

Microsoft report shows that Indian executives are looking at broader changes as well. Nearly 90 per cent said this year is critical for rethinking business models, the highest share globally. Around 64 per cent stated that they are focusing on productivity gains through AI adoption, while many confirmed that digital agents will be used to expand workforce capacity in the near future.

New job roles are also emerging. Ninety-two per cent of leaders said their organisations are considering positions dedicated to AI, such as workflow designers and software operators. More than half expect teams to build multi-agent systems for handling complex operations. To support this shift, 51 per cent of executives said upskilling will be their top priority in the next year, while 63 per cent of managers believe AI training will become a standard responsibility for teams within five years.

The report noted India’s high readiness for this transformation. About two-thirds of employees and 80 per cent of leaders in the country are already familiar with AI agents, showing that the workforce is prepared to adopt AI as a productivity partner.

Globally, AI adoption is also expanding quickly. Copilot applications now have more than 100 million monthly active users, marking the fastest adoption rate in the history of Microsoft 365. Across its services, more than 800 million people are using AI-powered features each month. In the last quarter alone, users created over 1 million custom AI agents through Copilot Studio, reflecting rapid enterprise-scale adoption.

Microsoft report concludes that Indian businesses are moving beyond trials and are scaling AI use across operations, setting the foundation for an AI-powered workplace model.
