India has introduced a long-term roadmap aimed at transforming its armed forces for the challenges of modern warfare. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh released the strategic blueprint designed to prepare the military for emerging security threats and evolving geopolitical dynamics.
Titled “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military,” the document outlines a comprehensive plan to modernise India’s defence capabilities by 2047, marking 100 years of India’s independence.
The vision document was unveiled at South Block in New Delhi in the presence of senior defence leadership. The event was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Prepared by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, the roadmap aims to transform India’s armed forces into a modern, integrated and technologically advanced military capable of addressing future threats.
The document highlights the importance of strategic reforms, capability upgrades and organisational restructuring within the defence forces. These steps are intended to help the military respond effectively to evolving geostrategic, technological and security challenges in a rapidly changing global landscape.
A major objective of the plan is to develop an integrated multi-domain force that can operate seamlessly across land, air, sea, cyber and space. The roadmap also stresses stronger coordination among the Army, Navy and Air Force to improve operational readiness and strengthen national security.
The strategy is designed to help the armed forces deter adversaries, respond effectively to conflicts across the full spectrum, and protect India’s expanding strategic interests. It also aligns with the country’s broader goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Officials said the roadmap focuses on strengthening defence capabilities through innovation, advanced technologies, improved training frameworks and deeper integration across the services.
