India Tops Global Daily ChatGPT Usage, Survey Finds

India has emerged as the global leader in daily ChatGPT usage, with the highest percentage of people using the AI chatbot every day, according to a recent survey. More than one third of respondents in India said they rely on ChatGPT daily, making it the highest worldwide.

The survey revealed that 36 percent of Indians use ChatGPT on a daily basis, which is more than double the global average of 17 percent. In addition, 39 percent said they use it weekly, while 10 percent admitted to using it monthly and 15 percent reported using it rarely.

The findings were published in the Global Public Opinion on Artificial Intelligence (GPO AI) report, which surveyed over 1,000 people across 21 countries at the end of 2023.

Comparisons with other countries
Pakistan ranked second after India, with 28 percent of people using ChatGPT daily and 34 percent weekly. Kenya followed in third place, with 27 percent using it daily and 42 percent weekly.

In China, 49 percent of respondents said they use ChatGPT once a week, while 24 percent use it daily. Brazil secured the fifth spot, where 21 percent reported daily usage and 38 percent weekly usage, though it also recorded the highest proportion of rare users at 27 percent.

Japan records lowest usage
Japan showed the lowest daily usage at only 6 percent. Around 32 percent said they use ChatGPT weekly, 20 percent monthly and 42 percent rarely. Similarly, several European countries, including France, the UK, Poland and Portugal, reported only 10 to 12 percent of respondents using the chatbot daily.

Although the survey was conducted at the end of 2023, the current usage of ChatGPT is likely to be even higher as the technology becomes more popular and widely adopted. The findings suggest that in India, ChatGPT has moved beyond being a novelty and has become a regular part of daily digital life.
