India witnessed the highest number of removals, with close to 3 million videos taken down from Youtube

YouTube has allegedly removed some 9.5 million videos that were posted between October and December 2024 off its site as part of its stringent response to content infractions. With over 3 million recordings removed, India saw the most deletions of any of the impacted nations.

Hate speech, harassment, violence, and disinformation are prohibited on the video-sharing website, which is well-known for its stringent content restrictions. YouTube uses both human moderators and AI-powered detection technologies to find and eliminate dangerous content before it reaches a wide audience in order to keep the viewing environment safer.

Child safety violations lead to the maximum removal of videos from YouTube.

Child safety breaches were the main cause of these takedowns. Over 5 million videos were taken down for putting kids in risk. Other typical justifications for deleting videos were:

  • Harmful or dangerous content
  • Harassment and violent material
  • Spam and misleading information

Mass channel and comment deletions

Not only were individual videos singled out, but YouTube also deleted 4.8 million channels that were mostly used to spam and defraud members of the network.

All of a channel’s videos vanish from the platform when it is removed. Over 54 million videos were removed from the platform as a result of this.

In addition, YouTube removed an astounding 1.2 billion comments for breaking its guidelines. Some of them were deleted because they contained threats, hate speech, or harassment, but the majority were reported as spam.

YouTube’s efforts to keep the platform safe

YouTube keeps improving its content filtering algorithm to prevent the spread of offensive material. The fact that India is at the top of the list of deletions raises questions regarding adherence to the platform’s rules.

The organization is warning content producers to abide by the guidelines and refrain from publishing anything that may be taken down. This serves as a stark warning to anybody posting videos: follow the guidelines or risk having your work removed!
