India selects Fractal to build the country’s first large reasoning model

Fractal has been chosen by the Government of India under the flagship India Al Mission to build the country’s first Large Reasoning Model. This marks an important milestone that strengthens India’s position in the global Al sector.

At the centre of this project is Fathom DeepResearch four B. It is an advanced agentic Al system designed for long horizon and PhD grade inquiry. The model is created for independent exploration, discovery and synthesis across the open web. It represents a major step forward in India’s ability to produce verifiable and high quality Al driven research at scale.

Fathom DeepResearch four B is notable for its multi agent self play design. This allows the system to create complex datasets that support difficult question answering. The design improves the depth and range of its reasoning skills. It also supports constant improvement as different agents challenge and refine each other. The system includes innovations such as RAPO which helps stabilise reinforcement learning during long reasoning cycles. This allows the model to remain coherent and accurate even during multi step problem solving. It also uses a Steerable Step Level Reward system. This guides the model to safe and reliable tool use which is essential as agentic systems interact more with external information sources.

A key strength of DeepResearch four B is its Report Synthesis Protocol. This process turns raw research traces into organised and citation supported outputs that are ready for publication. It ensures that the knowledge the system produces is complete, verifiable and transparent. It also makes the content suitable for academic, institutional and enterprise use. This raises automated research from simple summaries to structured and disciplined knowledge building.

With the launch of DeepResearch four B and the task of developing India’s first Large Reasoning Model, Fractal is creating the base for a new generation of Al research infrastructure in the country. The project aims to make scalable and high impact research much faster than traditional methods. It will help government bodies, academic institutions and enterprises find new discoveries, innovate quickly and compete globally in an age of autonomous intelligence.
