Mid-market global capability centers (GCCs) are growing in India. Over 140 greenfield GCCs have emerged in the nation in the last 30 months, according to analysis from HR consulting firm Xpheno. At first, these GCCs intended for 70,000 jobs, with each center aiming for 50–3,000 people.
According to a recent Nasscom-Zinnov survey, India employs 210,000 experts across more than 480 mid-market GCCs. Mid-sized companies with yearly sales between $100 million and $1 billion establish mid-market GCCs as competency centers. They make up 22% of all GCC units in the nation and 27% of all GCCs. Over 110 new facilities have been built in the previous five years alone, accounting for over 35% of all new GCC units in India during this time.
In terms of operational size, this is different from the bigger GCCs, but not in terms of innovation and the capacity to provide high-quality services.
By 2026, more than 120 new mid-market GCCs would be located in India, according data from Bengaluru and US-based ANSR. Sixty percent of India’s mid-tier GCCs are from North America. A quarter of these centers come from European countries, with Germany, the UK, Ireland, Spain, and France leading the way.
Ten percent of these establishments are located in the Asia-Pacific area, which includes Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Singapore. In the past two to three years, a number of mid-market GCC companies have made their way into India, including Revolut, Papa Johns, Raksul, and Outbrain.
The main locations of these centers are in Hyderabad, Pune, and Bengaluru. According to Xpheno’s GCC talent specialist Kedar Pathak, tier-1 sites provide better facilities, a wider range of skill sets, and greater talent availability. Tier-2 sites continue to be secondary options for GCC enterprises, notwithstanding their preparations for future expansion. Modern GCCs also include a variety of corporate operations in addition to being technical hubs.
