India Inc’s First Tesla Delivered to Executive as Elon Musk Responds

An executive from a major Indian business group has become the first person from India Inc to receive a Tesla car following the company’s launch in the country in July.

The executive shared a photo of himself with the car, announcing “India Inc’s first Tesla” and tagging Elon Musk, expressing his excitement: “This one’s for you @ElonMusk!!! I am beyond thrilled to receive India Inc’s 1st @Tesla! I have been waiting for this precious moment ever since I visited the Tesla Fremont factory in 2017! Dreams do come true!”

Elon Musk responded on X with a simple “Congrats!” acknowledging the milestone.

Although he is the first from India Inc to receive a Tesla, he is not the first individual in India to own one. Earlier this month, a state transport minister became the first customer in India to acquire the Model Y Tesla, two months after Tesla opened its first showroom in Mumbai.

Tesla officially launched in India with the Model Y, priced from 60 lakh rupees, approximately seventy thousand US dollars. Following Mumbai, the company opened a second showroom in Delhi at Worldmark 3 in Aerocity, its first in the National Capital Region.

In India, Tesla offers two Model Y variants. The rear-wheel drive starts at 60.1 lakh rupees or about seventy thousand dollars, while the long-range version is priced at 67.8 lakh rupees or around seventy nine thousand dollars. Prices in India are significantly higher than in other countries. For comparison, the same car costs 38.6 lakh rupees in the US, 30.5 lakh rupees in China, and 46 lakh rupees in Germany. The higher price in India is mainly due to steep import tariffs.

This delivery marks an important milestone for Tesla in India as the brand expands its presence and reaches out to the organized corporate sector, highlighting the growing interest in electric vehicles among business leaders.
