At a session titled Pioneering the Next Decade Building India’s Frontier Tech Future, former ISRO Chairman S Somanath said India has no shortage of talent, especially in space technology. He said “We have enough and more talent here” and noted that many top professionals are now returning to the country. He added that India must create an environment where this talent can flourish.
The session brought together panellists including Fabheads Automation Founder and CEO Dhinesh Kanagaraj and Accel’s Prashanth Prakash. They discussed emerging technologies that are driving the next phase of frontier innovation. Prakash pointed out a shift in investor thinking, saying deep tech is increasingly valued for its defensibility and IP driven models across fields such as aerospace, semiconductors and robotics.
The speakers said India needs stronger institutional frameworks to encourage global Indian talent to come back, much like approaches seen in China. They explained that while financial support matters, success also depends on ecosystem strength and institutional backing.
Somanath emphasised that deep tech is a strategic requirement for national self reliance, especially in the context of global disruptions. He highlighted the growing opportunities created through cross disciplinary collaboration and the strong engineering talent in India.
In another session on semiconductor manufacturing and ecosystem development, panellists noted significant progress in the country, particularly in the ATMP segment. They said India is gaining momentum in building a complete domestic semiconductor ecosystem.
