India Eyes First $10 Billion Cybersecurity Firm Backed by AI and Homegrown Startups

India is setting its sights on building its first $10 billion cybersecurity company by 2030, driven by artificial intelligence and a new wave of innovative Indian startups. Unlike earlier trends that followed global models, this initiative is being powered by local founders who are now leading from the front.

A group of Indian entrepreneurs, many of whom are alumni of Indian Institutes of Technology and have experience at global tech companies, are now launching AI-first cybersecurity startups. These firms are already competing with and winning contracts against large, well-funded US-based cybersecurity companies.

According to Prayank Swaroop, a partner at a leading venture capital firm, a recent meeting with this group of entrepreneurs highlighted their potential. “They’ve built and sold four cybersecurity companies in the US, each valued between $300 million and $400 million. Now, they’re looking to replicate that success in India — and that’s incredible,” he said.

Experts believe that the country has a real opportunity to become a global leader in cybersecurity if Indian companies begin adopting local solutions early and move beyond focusing only on price. Just as India has emerged as a powerhouse in software as a service, it could now take the lead in cybersecurity products built on AI.

Data from the Data Security Council of India shows that the domestic cybersecurity market reached around $6 billion in 2023 and has grown at a compound annual rate of more than 30 percent since 2019. The cybersecurity products segment alone has expanded more than three times during this period.

With Indian startups building AI-native security solutions from the ground up, focusing on automated threat detection, data risk quantification, and governance tools, India is now ready to shift from being a consumer of foreign security products to creating its own globally trusted platforms.

If this growth continues, the country could soon be home to a world-class cybersecurity firm that sets new standards in innovation and digital protection.
