India introduces e-Production Investment Business Visa for Chinese nationals

India has rolled out a new digital visa category to ease business travel for Chinese professionals and investors.

The government has launched the e-Production Investment Business Visa, also known as the e-B-4 Visa, to facilitate travel for Chinese businessmen to India. The visa was introduced on January 1 and can be applied for entirely online, removing the need to visit an embassy or use agents. The move is aimed at addressing the rising demand for business visas to India.

The e-B-4 Visa is expected to be processed within 45 to 50 days and allows eligible applicants to stay in India for up to 6 months. The visa is designed for specific business and production related activities. These include installation and commissioning of equipment, quality checks, essential maintenance work, production activities, IT and ERP ramp up, training programmes, supply chain development with vendors, and plant design and bring up. e-B-4

Chinese nationals can apply for the e-B-4 Visa through the official portal at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in under the section For e Visa by Bureau of Immigration. Applicants are required to submit all mandatory supporting documents as part of the online process.

Indian companies planning to invite Chinese citizens can also submit applications on their behalf. This can be done by registering on the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade National Single Window System portal at https://www.nsws.gov.in under the Login Business User Login section.

The introduction of the e-B-4 Visa is seen as part of broader people focused measures taken by India and China to reset bilateral relations. The step has been welcomed by China, which has been seeking faster processing of business visas for its nationals travelling to India.

By simplifying access and reducing procedural barriers, the new visa category is expected to support smoother business engagement and industrial collaboration between the two countries.
