India successfully carried out the first rail-based test of its intermediate-range ballistic missile Agni-Prime on September 24, 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced.
The test was conducted in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command using a Rail-based Mobile Launcher under a full operational scenario. This marks the India’s first launch of its kind and highlights enhanced mobility, rapid reaction capability, and low-visibility deployment of the missile system.
According to DRDO, the indigenously developed Agni-Prime can strike targets at a range of up to 2,000 kilometres, strengthening India’s strategic deterrence capabilities. Officials said the successful test demonstrates the system’s effectiveness in providing cross-country mobility and flexible deployment options, which are critical for operational readiness.
The launch underscores India’s continued progress in advanced missile technology and its ability to deploy strategic weapons efficiently and securely.
