India collaborate with UK in telecom, AI, emerging technologies

The Indian government said on Friday that it and the United Kingdom have increased their cooperation in important fields related to telecommunications, artificial intelligence (AI), and other cutting-edge devices.

To further strengthen Indo-UK ties in these vital areas, Secretary of Telecom Dr. Neeraj Mittal traveled to the UK to meet with the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and discuss potential collaboration opportunities in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), space technology, and next-generation telecommunications.

Key UK players from DSIT, prominent companies including BT and Ericsson, and innovation hubs and centers like SONIC Labs, UK Telecom Labs, TITAN, and JOINER participated in a roundtable discussion.

Innovate UK, the UK Technology Innovation Network (UKTIN), the European Space Agency, and the UK Space Agency all sent representatives to discuss potential areas of collaboration.

Dr. Mittal emphasized India’s dominance in the telecommunications industry and its quick development of next-generation network technology.

The Centre for Development of Telematics (CDOT) and SONIC Labs signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The agreement focuses on technical and policy issues pertaining to Open RAN, including as 5G Open RAN and AI in 4G/5G.

The telecom secretary met with Dave Smith, DSIT’s national technology adviser, and Chris Johnson, the organization’s national scientific adviser.

Emerging technologies and their uses in 5G, 6G, and digital infrastructure security were the main topics of discussion.

In order to explore cooperative efforts in digital transformation through telecom, telecom security, and developing telecom technologies, Dr. Mittal also met with Geoff Huggins, Director, Digital Directorate, Government of Scotland.

He went to one of the six Cloud and Distributed Computing (CHEDDAR)-focused Federated Telecom Hubs (FTH) in the United Kingdom. This hub is at the forefront of cutting-edge research in advanced sensing technologies, AI for 6G, green 6G, and 6G distributed cloud.

According to the Ministry of Communications, the Secretary also met with Jean Innes, CEO of the Alan Turing Institute, to discuss possible cooperation in digital twins, AI for telecom security, ethical AI, and developing an AI innovation and startup environment.

The Telecom Secretary also toured the 6G Research Centre at the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow and Scotland’s 5G Centre at the University of Strathclyde.
